Mar 19, 2014 I purchased the HP NC360T which is a little better but I still have issues, now I put a fan directly underneath. Curious to see what happens. There is a strange issue where I can only get one NIC port to work on gigabit, the second one remains on 100Mbps. I have had this adapter for a year or more now. It works as expected. No complaints there. I like the fact it has a small length of cable (about 2.5 inches) in it. This eliminates putting excess sideways stain on the port. The flex in the little cable takes allows for bending in any direction. My only concern is the ridiculous price. ![]() It's a little under $15 for this tiny piece of plastic and less than 3 inches of cable. That seems a bit over-the-top. Basically any buying this is effectively buying a 2.5in FireWire 800/400 cable for $15. For under half the price we can buy 6ft FireWire 800/400 cables. That makes a lot more sense to me, and it eliminates needing a separate adapter piece. Just one less thing to go wrong with connections. I need a few more 800/400 adapters today, and rather than getting more of these Moshi adapters, or the other solid adapters (i.e. The ones without any cable in them - which go for around $5) I will instead buy a few 6ft 800/400 cables. I would rather have 2 or 4 ft cables, but only the 6th have free Prime shipping (at this time - Dec 15 2012), and they seem to have a better price in many cases. I purchased this adapter in order to connect my external iSight camera (FireWire 400) to my new MacBook Pro (only has FireWire 800). I bought it so that I could use my external iSight camera when my computer was 'docked' and using an external monitor/keyboard and the built-in iSight was not accessible (because the laptop lid is closed). When I plugged it in my iSight was recognized, and I could get audio from it, but not video. Only a black screen where there should be video. So, I'm not sure why this is, but it seems to be a limitation of the adapter. I have since read on some Mac forums about similar issues with cheap FireWire adapter cables. I have had this adapter for a year or more now. It works as expected. No complaints there. I like the fact it has a small length of cable (about 2.5 inches) in it. I own a couple Macs, and they all have the new 800 FireWire connector. I recently replaced my wife's Mac with a Mini, and needed to give her a camera for Skype. I had an older iSight camera, but it had a FireWire 400 connector. Firewire 400 SpeedI read on-line that the use of this adapter would work with the iSight camera and Lion, so I gave it a shot, and it worked perfectly! The 800 side goes into the Mac, and the camera's 400 plug then fits into the other end of the adapter. Both ends of the adapter fit snugly, and it's of molded construction, so there's no chance of it coming apart over time. The price of the adapter was very inexpensive on Amazon and shipped free via Prime. It was much more expensive on the Apple Store site, and shipping and tax would have been additional. FYI, anyone coming across this review who is using this specifically for an iSight camera, it works with everything in Lion except FaceTime. Firewire 800 To Firewire 400Skype interprets the camera perfectly. Go figure that an Apple camera wouldnt work with Apple technology. My newest Macbook Pro has the latest Firewire 800 inputs, rather than the old Firewire 400 inputs. That's a good thing, because Firewire 800 is a lot faster. Firewire 400 Vs Usb 2.0It also means, however, that my old external hard drives and an older miniDV camera can't plug in directly. This solves that problem. I also like that it's flexible, putting some distance between the larger Firewire 400 input end and the smaller Firewire 800 input end. That means a bit more space for the Ethernet cable I sometimes use, and doesn't crowd out the USB 2.0 inputs that I usually have an external hard drive or other accessory plugged into. Nice and simple design makes this a convenient and esssential accessory for anyone who still has equipment that used to be compatible with the older Firewire inputs. I have a Focusrite Saffire that uses a firewire 400 cable, but my MacBook Pro only has a firewire 800 port.
