I looked into the error message for the Phaser and this is whaty it says: The Engine Control Board detected that the measured current value through the second bias transfer roller was not within specification. It has a list of suggested parts replacements also but I would suggest plugging it directly into the wall (no a powerstrip or UPS) and then restarting it. The parts replacement as follows: 1.) Check the wiring from the high voltage power supply to the second bias transfer roller 2.) Replace the second bias transfer roller (not hard and should be tried first in my opinion) 3.) replace the high voltage power supply 4.) replace the accumulator belt assembly 5.) replace the engine control board My opinion is that the powere is fluctuating to the printer and maybe causing the problem.
I recently purchased a used Tektronix Phaser 780 printer. It prints the test pages from the printer beautifully. However, if I try to print from my computer, I get two pages of print (words) that clearly are not what I am trying to print, even when printing the test page. I am having problems connecting my imac to tektronix phaser 780 printer. Intel mac 2ghz osx 10,4.11 printer connected using USB to parallel.I have also tried an ethernet cable with no luck. Lexmark has this problem on some older models. Let me know how it works out. It is located under LOTS of pieces/parts. It is a long rod that goes left to right across the printer. As another note, once this was said and done, we had to have it opened up again (2.5 hours) to have the $99 auger assembly replaced, so you might want to check out the auger assembly when you have yours apart just in case these two items are somehow related.the auger transports the waste from the left side of the printer to the right. Please let me know if you need additional information and I'll see what I can find out. The error 24 message is a relatively easy fix and I have completed those repairs in less than 30 min. The transfer roller clutch is usually the culprit and it can be replaced without having to do the entire cam roller assy. At times also the solenoid for the clutch is faulty or the transfer roller itself will need to be replaced, again that is an easy fix. The clutch and solenoid are located and accessed from the rear under the drive motor. It can be tricky for someone not familiar with doing this repair but it should not take 2-3 hours. Martya5261: I have to thank you so much for your post and positive outlook on fixyourownprinter.com. It looks like your recommendation to check the solenoid (amongst others) may have determined my problem (hopefully the only one) on my Phaser 780 printer. After removing the solenoid, I measured the resistance between the solenoid leads. It was infinite. I am ordering one and will see if that is my only problem, or if something else is wrong too (maybe the solenoid burned out for a reason?). Before isolating this problem, I called the Tektronics/Xerox rep who suggested a new Transfer Roller assy costing ~$900 - yikes. Apparently, there are a number of clutches - non of which are referred to as the 'transfer roller clutch'. They are as follows: Multi-purpose tray clutch Registration clutch Pre-registration clutch Developer clutch Would I be correct in guessing that the 'transfer roller clutch' to which you refer is the Developer clutch, and if not, would you please tell me which one? Thank you again. A little more info. If you open and remove the fuser on the left side, you can get access to the cleaner on the top. There is one screw in the front on the left side which prevents the drawer from coming out. Remove that screw and remove the complete fuser. Look in the cavity and up and you will see a plastic piece which runs accross the printer with a clear plastic film. To remove this piece you have to remove the black plastic piece which holds it in the front of the printer when you open the front door. Just make sure you see how it is put in so you can put it back in correctly. I have seen this many times and on most occasions I am able to solve the issue by removing and reinserting the cleaner. If they are tight the cleaning blade wont pivot back down after a cleaning cycle. When it is stuck up it will clean all the toner off the belt while it is printing.
